RCL’s Dr Morris Anglin awarded Advance HE Principal Fellowship

Regent College London (RCL) is delighted to announce that Dr Morris Anglin, Dean of our School of Health and Sports Science (SoHSS), has been awarded Principal Fellowship (PFHEA) through the support of our Advance HE Fund (AHEF).

AHEF is part of RCL’s Academic Staff Development and Scholarship Funding Scheme, which provides financial support and other mechanisms for academic staff to engage in development, scholarship and research that informs their teaching and pedagogic practices and curriculum development.

A prestigious recognition of leadership

Advance HE Fellowship is a nationally recognised indicator of professional achievement for higher education practitioners, demonstrating a personal and institutional commitment to professionalism. Fellowships are awarded based on evidence of personal professional practice that meets the requirements of the Professional Standards Framework 2023 (PSF 2023).

The Principal Fellowship is awarded to highly experienced individuals with an extensive record of effectiveness in the strategic leadership of high-quality learning. PFHEA applicants must reflect honestly on their career and how their vision and direction have shaped higher education. Dr Anglin described the process as an “intensely personal journey”.

“As the first academic at Regent College London to be awarded Principal Fellowship through the support of the College’s Advance HE Fund, I feel deeply honoured and grateful. This recognition is not only a personal milestone but also a testament to Regent’s commitment to cultivating strategic and impactful academic leadership.”

Driving innovation in inclusive learning

As Dean of SoHSS, Dr Morris Anglin brings over 20 years of experience in public health and pharmacy in the USA. He has a deep interest in environmental public health and social care, with his MSc and PhD research centred on environmental epidemiology.

Dr Anglin efforts focus on enhancing the school’s academic and professional reputation by promoting high-quality research in health and sports, scholarly activity through interdisciplinary research and professional practice among staff.

In addition to Principal Fellowship, Dr Anglin was recently awarded case study funding through Advance HE’s 2024–25 Innovative Practice Grant. This initiative supports projects that highlight innovation and excellence in small, specialist, independent and college-based higher education. Each £500 grant funds the development of case studies that demonstrate a tangible impact on staff or students.

Under the theme of “Protecting Inclusion in Times of Change”, Dr Anglin’s case study will explore how RCL, in partnership with the University of Greater Manchester, supported a student with multiple comorbidities, going above and beyond standard Disability Support Allowance provisions to ensure inclusive learning.

“A shared achievement”

Reflecting on this remarkable achievement, Dr Anglin comments:

“Principal Fellowship recognises not just my journey, but the positive influence I’ve had in supporting mature students and colleagues alike. At Regent College London, I see this impact daily.”

“In many ways, our mission echoes Maslow’s concept of self-actualisation: empowering individuals not just to learn, but to become the best version of themselves. This award is a shared achievement – one that belongs as much to my students and colleagues as it does to me.”

Paul Williams, Director of Scholarship & Research at RCL, comments:

“This is a hugely significant achievement by Dr Anglin, particularly as it recognises his sustained record of effective strategic leadership throughout his time at Regent College London. The positive impact of this vision and leadership on high-quality learning has been instrumental in the school’s transformation of inclusive teaching practices and pedagogies, which has resulted in enhanced outcomes across all programme areas.”

Dr Anglin’s achievement is not only a proud moment for him, but also a milestone for RCL. It reflects the College’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, inclusive education and the development of sector-leading staff. We look forward to seeing the continued impact of his work, both within the College and across the broader higher education community.
